Graphic Diaries / Urban Sketchers

Workshop "This is your neighbourhood and you are the artist"
Mouraria Neighbourhood
2014

In a course through Mouraria, the children were able to rediscover their borough, producing graphic registers in their notebooks, and would also explore basic notions of spot, line and colour.
They drew interiors and exteriors, experimented new materials and new techniques of representation, under the instructions of the architect and illustrator Richard Câmara of the collective Urban Sketchers.
There was a reflection about what a graphic diary is, “a notebook, new or old, large or small, thick or thin, with free blank pages for written notes, drawn with different drawing techniques, and a general aspect that can be more or less ‘finished’. These graphics diaries are used by artists or people interested in the area of drawing as a support to different kinds of registers and notes, being part of their creative process.”
This activity was designed to explore the way architecture relates with the different artistic areas, and deepen the affective relation of children with the urban territory, through their involvement with built patrimony, as an effective way to look after the city.
