AVENIDA INTENDENTE is an urban installation designed for Rua do Benformoso and Rua dos Anjos, based on the definition of a wider Intendente square, a space of the city endowed with a favorable climate for local initiative.
AVENIDA INTENDENTE wants to boost the experience of the street life, giving visibility to this narrow and long artery of the city, attracting new commerce, and driving the flows from the recently renewed Intendente square to the adjacent streets, enhancing its social, cultural and urban dynamics.
AVENIDA INTENDENTE was the result of the field work that took place during one year in the Benformoso-Anjos-axis, and it is an intervention in several fronts: lighting advertisements for local commerce, light installation in key points of the axis, urban gallery (8 artistic interventions in local commerce), reading, editing and debate.
It is an ARTÉRIA project in partnership with TEATRO PRAGA, Associação Cultural XERÉM with funding from BIP/ZIP Program – Local Partnerships //Pelouro da Habitação da Câmara Municipal de Lisboa.
To ensure the future memory of the intervention a publication will be released – AVENIDA INTENDENTE, A COMMON USE DRAFT BOOK coordinated by Susana Pomba //TEATRO PRAGA, with the aim to make a free artistic approach, a printed record that brings together excerpts from research texts on Mouraria quarter, from various angles and disciplines, process documents from the urban installation and informal conversations for future consideration, for the resident and the scientific community.
