Mobility House
Collective Equipment - Housing/Services
Mouraria neighbourhood - Lisbon
2012 → 2014
Mobility can be intellectual, geographical, social or professional. It is displacement, translation, change of viewpoint, mental shift, insight, recognition. A journey in space and time, a phenomenon that happens with the possibility to travel, share and exchange. Be free to draw one’s way in society, is a synonym of equity and equality of opportunities. Mobility shapes a vast field of work, in the sense it can generate awareness and open new perspectives. Re-program existing resources while connecting them with the community needs, enables to create a local platform to put social and professional opportunities in action as well as unfolding a field for rehearsing new urban renewal strategies.
The house embodies and puts the concept in action. A vacant building located in a central square in the heart of Mouraria will be rehabilitated to become a community equipment. Introducing mobility in this territory to work out the problematic of a closed neighborhood. MOBILITY HOUSE will be a pole for mobility, with a specific functional program designed to meet the local needs and contribute for local empowerment.
The concept of this project arises in the framework of the Community Development Programme of Mouraria [PDCM] promoted by the Municipality of Lisbon, where 20 NGO´s are designing and implementing projects to boost the territory, starting from the problems identified during the diagnostic phase of the programme.
MOBILITY HOUSE project have found among PDCM partners a motivated, international, multidisciplinary and committed team working on its conceptualisation and implementation. This project won the Lisbon’s Participatory Budget 2012/2013.
